Shimano Launches Q'AUTO: Auto Shifting, No Battery Needed

At Eurobike 2025, Shimano officially unveiled bikes equipped with Q'AUTO, its new AI-driven automatic shifting system that requires no battery or charging.

Smart, Self-Powered Shifting

Q'AUTO uses a built-in dynamo inside the rear hub to generate power while riding, storing it in a small capacitor. It runs sensors and an AI engine to automatically select the right gear based on speed, cadence, and slope—without rider input.

Maintenance-Free Ride

The system shifts smoothly, one gear at a time, protecting the chain and drivetrain. Riders can also shift manually via wireless Di2 controls, with the system learning user preferences over time.

Coming Soon

Shimano will begin rolling out city, mountain, and gravel bikes with Q'AUTO in late 2025, offering a new standard for smart, hassle-free cycling—no batteries, no charging, just ride.
