Taiwan E-Bike Exports Double

According to data released by Taiwan Bicycle Association in conjunction with Taiwan's Bureau of Foreign Trade, 288,498 e-bikes were exported from Taiwan during the first six months of 2019, a huge increase of over 111% from the 136,389 e-bikes exported during the first half of the previous year. In terms of value, a total value of US$ 379,916,667 of e-bike units were exported at an average value of US$1,316 each, this total increased 98% from the US$191,824,261 total value of e-bikes exported in the same period of the previous year. E-Bike exports now account for approximately 40% of the total value of the Taiwanese bike industry.
Of course, the EU's anti-dumping and countervailing duties and the USA's Section 301 tariffs on Chinese e-bikes will have had a large influence on the skyrocketing popularity of Taiwanese e-bikes. However, exports increased sharply even to countries that did not add market protection tariffs.

Exports of traditional bicycles stabilized in the first six months of the year; 1,103,028 complete traditional bikes were exported from January to the end of June, 3% up compared to the same period of 2018. The total value of these exports was US$628,685,770 and the average unit value was US$ 569.96.
