Magura Mixing Heritage with Modernity

Magura found some good surprises amidst a far less crowded Taichung Bike Week. Sandra Dewald, Magura Senior Key Account Manager, said, “It’s not been a great quantity (of attendees), but we’ve had many great customers at the same time. Most were expected, but we had some more surprises on the way. We’ve had good contact with European customers in our hotel rooms; we’re all used to this way of working.”

Ms. Dewald passionately pointed out that Magura started small, so they understand the importance of a good beginning, and that all customers are welcome regardless of size or reputation.

They had many positive meetings during the course of the week, some planned, some unexpected. “We always look to find the best strategy for Magura and our partners,” she said. “People (bike companies) in Europe are trying to save money, and they have full stocks, and they’re thinking, ‘Do they really need to see new products or not?’”

So how have Magura’s new products been doing?

Magura’s “New” Products

Getting lots of attention this week were the “historic” Magura Louise and Gustav brakes, a throwback to the product line from the early 2000s that have long been reminisced about by loyal Magura riders. The new versions were first showcased at Eurobike and have constantly been inquired about since.

The “Gustav” name is only reserved for Magura’s premium quality brakes. Gustav Magenwirth founded Magura in 1893, and the company has a proud tradition of milestone engineering and technical partnerships. Magura’s product revival seeks to further enhance their brake lineup—blending heritage with modern technology.

The new models feature updated designs for heavier e-bikes and higher-performance demands, such as larger pistons and stronger rotors.

The new Louise is also being successful for us since being announced at Eurobike. With its ‘flip-flop’ design (can be used for both the left and right sides of handlebars if flipped over) and radial master cylinders (providing responsive and ergonomic brake application), it’s a really strong brake for Magura,” Ms. Dewald added.

The Magura Louise is a modern, all-around hydraulic disc brake. It’s designed for trail, all-mountain, and e-bike riding.  It provides an “intuitive and comfortable braking experience” with an optimized pressure point, making it suitable for daily riders seeking confidence without the weight or cost of gravity-focused systems.

The Magura Gustav Pro is a high-performance brake designed for enduro, downhill, and e-MTB riders seeking maximum power, control, and durability. Ms. Dewald points out that the Gustav is “very heat resistant" and the brake pads “last for a really long time.” The Gustav Elite shares the majority of the Pro's basic technology and braking power, but it uses lighter, more economical materials—such as Carbotecture—and has easier adjustments. The Gustav can now be fitted with Magura’s new MDP13 brake pads for even more braking power.

Magura created the Gustav Pro, a strong, ABS-ready e-brake developed exclusively for gravity mountain bikes and e-bikes that easily integrates headset and hose routing. The caliper's rotor is 2.5 mm thick and designed to reduce vibration and noise.  The forged, one-piece caliper can hold thick pads, and the brake master has a large 7 ml reservoir space for added reliability. Easy Link

When asked what makes Magura stand out in a competitive market, Ms. Dewald quickly mentioned Magura's Easy Link as a no-brainer, rather than the typical "dependability and performance" response.

Magura’s “easy link” system comes with all new brakes; it comes integrated with the system and can be produced very fast, “much faster than competitors.”

Magura's EasyLink hydraulic hose interface is quick to attach, making brake installation and maintenance easier.  EasyLink connects hoses directly to the lever or caliper instead of using the traditional barb and olive fitting, making it easier to route internally, replace components, or adjust hose length without cutting or re-bleeding the system.  Easy Tube Technology (ETT) allows shops to precisely cut hoses and attach connectors, saving setup time, waste, and leaks caused by poor fits, particularly on modern bikes with complex internal routing.
