Bosch eBike API For Premium Fleets Among Updates

At Eurobike 2025, Bosch eBike Systems showcased their latest Line PX drive unit targeting their adventure category for long rides and exploration, a new subcategory they’re looking to develop and grow with OEM partners.

For their more silent Line PX, feedback has gone well so far, and there’s been lots of collaboration with OEM partners to better understand the target audience for this drive unit. It’s been well received, and they will continue to fuse this development into their CX drive, which is already known for being stable; Bosch says the CX is already the ‘MTB benchmark’ and that it’s just going to get better.

Connected Biking”

Bosch eBike Systems has also made significant investments in 'connected biking.’ They've made progress by connecting e-bikes to their flow app, and now they're implementing their fleet strategy. They have been working on an API service and are looking for both local and global partners who can use Bosch's data to create their own business models.

With their fleet API dashboard example, we can see how all of the bikes are connected and view live data on them, such as battery level, range, location, and odometer. They are working with premium fleet businesses in Italy and Switzerland, especially in tourist areas where rentals are in demand.

Their API (application programming interface) is a B2B service that provides data so that other collaborators can tailor their own apps or fleet dashboards to their needs.

Bosch has many options, but the largest Swiss auto distributor, AMAG, has prepared their B2B fleet platform and is now a significant European partner. More info here.

Flow App Updates

Bosch’s flow app, which is used by consumers, has been updated with new features. Now, up to six bikes can be added to the app under one account, rather than just one. Bike sharing among family and friends is now possible with the Flow+ subscription. Bosch listened to their customers and converted app store "complaints" about having only one user over the last few years into "requests," demonstrating their commitment to customer satisfaction.

They now offer not only an app-controlled bike lock that can be uploaded to the cloud but also, as part of the subscription, battery locking functionality that can also be uploaded to the cloud. So, in the event of theft, the battery will be marked; even if it is replaced, it will not be usable. Bosch also has its own encrypted security, allowing the app to communicate with the bicycle.

Another key feature they are proud of is the navigation, which now includes 3D maps—great news for map geeks who enjoy seeing high-rises in major cities!

An important feature is their AI-powered 'range control', which uses up to 20 riding data variables to ensure you arrive at your destination by adjusting bike performance to the level you specify. A control button can be used to specify the level of comfort needed to get you home, and an alert can be sent to your phone if necessary. It appears to personalize and follow riding patterns.

Bosch Service

One of Bosch eBike System's main selling points is its extensive service network, which has also been integrated into the app. Dealers can set service intervals and maintain a digital service book. This is part of their overall vision for these "connected" platforms, which includes "connecting all the major players in the bike industry," and end users can participate by using the Flow app.

Manufacturers, dealers, and end users can all communicate more effectively with other B2B partners by making use of their API. End users can get the full experience "not just for hardware, but also with software."

Bosch eBike Systems began their 16th training season for specialist dealers on October 20, highlighting new products for model year 2026, such as the Performance Line PX and the Kiox 400C control unit.

The training sessions cover smart system updates, workshop tips, and an in-depth look at Bosch eBike service, ensuring that dealers are prepared to support riders of all skill levels.

The Future is Getting Closer

E-bike drives are becoming an increasingly competitive segment of the market, particularly as chunkier bikes appear to be dominating recent trade shows. However, Bosch believes that collaboration, reliability, service, and quality help them maintain a competitive advantage. They continue to believe that they are "best in class.” Their history, with the Bosch 'gene' dating back a century, assures riders, users, and OEMs that they can turn on a Bosch system with confidence.

Bosch plans to reveal even more collaborations the following year. CARIAD, Bosch, and Volkswagen's software division demonstrated a car-to-bike communication prototype at the recent Munich trade show.

Bosch and CARIAD are working together to develop software for Level 2 and 3 assisted and automated driving, using artificial intelligence to make automated driving available to millions. The AI includes essential cognitive tasks such as perception, interpretation, and decision-making to supplement the system's object recognition with self-driving functions such as steering and braking—essentially, giving it real human-like behavior. We can expect to see more starting in late 2026.
