Enviolo Room
Enviolo has recently released some product updates in response to the changing landscape of increasing mid motor torque across the board. They have had to adapt and ensure that their technology is appropriate for this development.
The torque limit of their core products, like their "TREKKING hub" shift solution, will be raised from 90 Nm to 100 Nm, making it compatible with Bosch CX, and other premium mid motor models. Bosch is a crucial technical partner for Enviolo, especially in Europe.
Enviolo’s trekking hub covers many usages and is one of their most sought after.
Thomas Ettema, Enviolo's Head of Product Management, stated, "We offer a completely different ride experience compared to indexed gearing options," such as Shimano's Nexus 5. The Enviolo stepless system has a continuous planetary gearing, allowing riders to select any ratio to manage their cadence. When combined with their automatic shifting system, the shift motor performs calculations and shifts for you. Enviolo uses two sensors, one for speed and one for cadence, which are based on sprocket and wheel speeds.
They have kept their trusted technology the same in 2025, using their CVP (continuously variable planetary) auto-shifting technology. The hubs have remained consistent over the last ten years, and they’re continuously improving and getting to higher torque rates. By 2026 they will look to add a bigger gear ratio spread between the low and high gears for the future ‘UTILITY’ hub. They are also working on new automatic shifting hardware as well as firmware.
In such a changing industrial climate, customers and partners always have some sort of request for changes. Enviolo trusts that most of the time these requests are implemented into their current modular platform design, like with Gates for their sprocket attachment. Their hubs are available for 135 solid axle and 148 modular axles, so they can fit all different industry standards, says Ettema.
Mr. Ettema said the common requests are if they supply more torque versus gross vehicle weight or offer a bigger ratio range. “We’re always working towards it. We’re fitting the requests and requirements for the industry,” he added. “We’re on top of our game. We’re the only integrated gear that matches the motor torque profiles that will be implemented in the market next year.”
Working with over 100 brands and winning multiple awards from different organizations, Enviolo is proving to be the major transmission power in the industry, from B2B cargo vehicles to comfortable e-bike solutions in any terrain.
Giant has been using Enviolo systems since 2023, like with the Stormguard, and has recently announced the GIANT Explore E+ using the ERGO handlebar remote, allowing for switching between automatic and manual shifting.
The trekking hub has also been recently seen on a test ride on Cannondale’s Tesoro around Chamonix. You can check out their progress here.

Enviolo’s statement “Never Shift Again” is a self-explanatory one. “If you assemble our system on your bike and set your cadence, you’ll never have to shit again,” Mr. Ettema said.
Finishing on a positive note for the industry, Mr. Ettema said that a major, unnamed North American brand expects e-bike sales to pick up from spring 2026, from a European market standpoint at least.
