Bafang Launches Smart 5-Speed Hub

Bafang recently introduced its new RG E510, a 5-speed auto/manual electronic gear hub, marking another step toward more intelligent and integrated e-bike drive systems.

Designed specifically for e-bikes, the RG E510 works with mid-drive motors delivering up to 120 Nm of torque and integrates with Bafang's M210 city, M410 trekking and M430 cargo systems. By combining motor output, electronic shifting and road-sensing intelligence, the system creates a smoother and more intuitive riding experience.

The RG E510 offers both automatic and manual shifting. In Auto mode, it selects the optimal gear according to cadence, speed and gradient, while riders can still shift manually via handlebar buttons. During gear changes, the motor and hub communicate in real time: torque is briefly reduced, the hub shifts, and power is restored instantly, making shifts almost imperceptible.

A built-in 6-axis gyroscope detects road gradients in real time. When climbing, the system can proactively increase assistance and downshift to help riders maintain a relaxed cadence and reduce knee strain. On descents, it upshifts automatically according to speed, reducing ghost pedaling and improving re-acceleration.

Efficiency is another key advantage. By keeping the motor within its most efficient rpm range, the RG E510 helps make better use of battery capacity and deliver more predictable range. The system also supports over-the-air updates, allowing Bafang to refine shift logic and add new functions over time.

With automatic gear selection, real-time sensing, motor-hub coordination and software upgrade capability, the RG E510 is positioned as a smart e-bike solution for city, trekking and cargo applications where ease of use, efficiency and reliability are increasingly important.
