Taiwan H1 2020 E-Bike Exports up 25%

According to official data released by Taiwan's External Trade Development Council, TAITRA and bicycle industry association, TBA, Taiwan's export of e-bikes jumped by 25% in the first half of this year to 362,571 units. The total value of the e-bike exports was US$461,751,953, up 21.5% from the first 6 months of 2019. Taiwan's e-bike export value now represents nearly half of Taiwan's export value for all bikes.
Exports of traditional (non-power-assisted) bicycles from Taiwan fell once again in the first half of this year. From January to June, a total of 769,380 compete traditional bicycles were exported from Taiwan. This was a steep drop of over 30% from the 1,103,028 units exported in the same period of last year. At an average value of US$610.57, the total value of these traditional bicycle exports from January to June was US$469,757,562. This is a decrease of 25% from the same period in 2019, and only slightly higher than the total value of exported e-bikes.

According to the TBA data, once again, the EU was the most popular destination for Taiwanese made e-bikes. 234,611 e-bike units were exported to this area in the first six months of 2020, representing an increase of over 16% campared to the 201,826 shipped there in the same period last year. These exported e-bikes had an average until value of  US$1,218.39 and a total value of  US$285,848,710; a 14.16% increase from the same period in 2019.
Within the EU, the Netherlands was by far the largest single destination for Taiwanese e-bike exports in the first half of this year. A total of 119,657 e-bikes with a total export value of over US$169 million were exported there between January and June, 2020. These figures indicate increases of over 25% and 26% respectively compared to the same period of 2019.
Other major EU destinations for e-bike exports from Taiwan include Germany, Sweden and the UK with total quantities of 28,490, 21198 and 17,835 units respectively. Exports to Germany and Sweden increased substantially compared to the first half of the previous year, while e-bike exports from Taiwan to the UK fell slightly.

North America
The USA was the second biggest destination for Taiwan's e-bike exports during the first six months of this year. In this period a total of 87,513 e-bikes were exported there. This is a huge jump of 63% over the 53,572 units exported to the USA from January to June of 2019. With an average export value of US$1,244.66, the total value of Taiwan's e-bike exports to the USA was US$108,923,525 so far this year, an increase of 45% over the US$75,084,632 total e-bike export value from the same period last year.

Outside of the EU and North America, no country received more than 10,000 e-bike units from Taiwan. According to the supplied data, 8,087 e-bikes were to Switzerland, 5,525 e-bikes exported to Australia and 3,636 e-bikes were shipped to Japan in the first six months of 2020.
