Honda has confirmed its entry into the high-end electric mountain bike market, presenting its latest e-MTB prototype at Sea Otter Europe in Spain. A production model based on the prototype is scheduled for release in 2027.

The bike features a distinctive carbon frame developed with support from ADP Engineering, the company behind German E-Bike brand Rotwild. It uses a 29-inch front and 27.5-inch rear wheel setup, full suspension and electronic shifting.

The display model appears to use a Shimano mid-drive system, but Honda has not confirmed the production bike’s motor, battery, weight, range, price or launch markets.

Honda’s move highlights the growing appeal of E-MTBs to automotive and motorcycle manufacturers. Taiwanese suppliers may find opportunities in carbon frames, suspension parts, wheels, batteries and electronic systems, although Honda has not disclosed its production base or supply-chain partners.
