Backcountry Acquires Velofix to Expand Mobile Bike Assembly and Delivery Services

U.S. outdoor retailer Backcountry has acquired mobile bike service network Velofix. The transaction closed on September 17, 2026, with financial terms remaining undisclosed. Backcountry plans to integrate Velofix into its direct-to-consumer bicycle assembly and fulfillment operations.

Founded in 2013, Velofix operates across the United States and Canada with 96 certified technicians utilizing fully equipped mobile service vans. The company provides on-site bike assembly, tune-ups, drivetrain and suspension maintenance, e-bike diagnostics, bike fitting, and technical support for races and events. According to Velofix, the brand has served more than 215,000 riders to date.

Backcountry President Kevin Lenau stated that, under the initial phase of integration, customers purchasing bicycles through Backcountry or its subsidiary Competitive Cyclist can have Velofix technicians perform assembly and tuning at their homes. The company subsequently plans to launch a service in which new bicycles are shipped directly to Velofix, assembled and sized, and then delivered to customers.

Currently, approximately two-thirds of Velofix’s mobile operations are company-owned, while the remainder are managed by independent franchisees. Backcountry plans to retain roughly 60 technicians working with company-owned vans and will maintain Velofix’s corporate headquarters in Vancouver, Canada. Velofix CEO and co-founder Davide Xausa will transition to an advisory role as a consultant.

Backcountry also intends to continue supporting Velofix franchise operators by channeling service demand generated by its bicycle sales into the franchise network. Velofix’s current fleet covers approximately 50% of North America’s top bicycle markets. Backcountry aims to expand the vehicle fleet through a combination of company-owned and franchised units to achieve 75% coverage of those markets.

Together, Backcountry and Competitive Cyclist sell approximately 5,000 bicycles annually, carrying brands such as Scott, Yeti, Santa Cruz, 3T, Cervélo, Pinarello, Ibis, Enve, and Pivot. Backcountry also serves as the exclusive U.S. retailer for Belgian bicycle brand Ridley.

In addition to serving retail customers, Velofix currently provides mobile fulfillment services for Canyon, a direct-to-consumer bicycle brand that competes with Backcountry in the e-commerce market. Lenau indicated that Backcountry intends to maintain the working relationship with Canyon.
