Bicycles, e-bikes and bicycle components have been left off the latest list of Chinese products proposed for more favorable U.S. tariff treatment, leaving current import cost pressures largely unchanged for the bike industry.

The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative recently announced a list covering around US$30 billion worth of non-sensitive Chinese goods that could be considered for improved tariff treatment. However, bicycles under HTS 8712, e-bikes under HTS 8711, and bicycle parts and accessories under HTS 8714 were not included.

PeopleForBikes had previously submitted comments to USTR seeking tariff relief for bicycles, e-bikes and related components, but the categories were not included in the latest recommendations.

For bicycle brands and suppliers, the outcome means tariff pressures on China-made products entering the U.S. remain largely unchanged. Companies are therefore expected to continue reviewing sourcing, production locations and supply-chain diversification as they manage tariff-related risks.
