ICBF 2026 Focuses on Cargo Bike Adoption and Battery Standardisation

The International Cargo Bike Festival (ICBF) takes place on 12–13 October 2026 at Jaarbeurs in Utrecht, the Netherlands, as part of Dutch Cycling Week. The event features an indoor exhibition, an outdoor test track, presentations, workshops and networking, showcasing cargo bikes, components, software and fleet solutions. Organisers expect participants from more than 30 countries.

The programme covers battery technology, regulations, cargo bike parking and fleet operations. On 12 October, Dr Frauke Behrendt of Eindhoven University of Technology explores lessons European cities could learn from battery-swapping systems in African cities, particularly Kenya. ICBF director Jos Sluijsmans is also scheduled to announce the launch of Branchevereniging Fietslogistiek Nederland (BFLN), the Dutch cycle logistics association. LEVA-EU is holding a separate industry event on vehicle type approval and battery regulations.

The 13 October programme focuses on international cooperation and operational standards, including bicycle mechanic qualifications, eBike Battery Passports and cycle logistics in Mumbai. Representatives from cycle logistics organisations in Belgium, France and Germany are also participating.

Sluijsmans said cargo bike adoption was expanding beyond postal and parcel delivery, citing Dutch painting businesses as an example. ICBF co-organiser Tom Parr highlighted the festival’s role in international knowledge exchange on battery safety, regulations and total cost of ownership (TCO).

Founded in 2012, ICBF promotes cargo bikes and international industry exchange. Admission is free, with advance online registration required.
