Germany Sells 741,000 E-MTBs in 2025, Outnumbering Traditional MTBs 14 to 1

Germany sold 741,000 electric mountain bikes (E-MTBs) in 2025, compared with 52,500 non-electric mountain bikes, according to figures reported by German cycling magazine BIKE on October 18, 2026. E-MTBs accounted for 93.4% of new mountain bike sales, while traditional MTBs represented 6.6%.

The figures come from the 2026 market data published by the German Bicycle Trade Association (VDZ), based on a 2025 survey conducted by the German Bicycle Industry Association (ZIV). Total mountain bike sales in Germany reached 793,500 units in 2025.

Mountain Bikes Account for 21.4% of Total Sales

Mountain bikes, including electric and non-electric models, accounted for 21.4% of total bicycle and e-bike sales in Germany in 2025, making the category the second-largest by model group after trekking bikes, which accounted for 31.3%.

Within the e-bike market, E-MTBs represented 38% of sales, the largest share among e-bike model groups.

BIKE noted that the higher average selling price of E-MTBs compared with non-electric mountain bikes could mean an even larger difference in sales revenue between the two categories. However, VDZ did not provide specific revenue figures.

Sales Figures Do Not Reflect Trail Use

The figures measure new bicycle sales in Germany during 2025, rather than the number of bikes in use or the mix of bicycles ridden on trails. They also do not indicate how frequently owners ride or how they use their bikes.

Although E-MTBs dominate new mountain bike sales, the data alone do not establish that traditional mountain bikes are disappearing from the market.Germany Sells 741,000 E-MTBs in 2025, Outnumbering Traditional MTBs 14 to 1
