TAIPEI, Taiwan — October 8, 2025 — In response to growing global expectations for Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) and sustainable supply chain governance, the Taiwan Bicycle Association (TBA) has announced a new industry initiative calling on all members of the bicycle supply chain to actively implement Supply Chain Due Diligence, with a particular emphasis on human rights and the prevention of forced labor.
According to TBA, leading brands Giant Manufacturing Co. and Merida Industry Co. have already launched their due diligence programs and will continue to share progress updates, setting an important precedent for the wider industry.
Partnership with International Auditors to Support Global Market Compliance
To assist member companies—especially those supplying European and U.S. markets—TBA will collaborate with international third-party auditing organizations to conduct professional due diligence assessments for a first cohort of volunteer suppliers. These participants will include companies from across the upstream, midstream, and downstream segments of the industry.
At the same time, TBA is offering a comprehensive self-assessment checklist to help suppliers carry out internal reviews. The checklist is designed to ensure initial compliance with Taiwan’s labor regulations, eliminate fundamental non-compliance risks such as forced labor, and help companies gradually align with international standards.
Adopting Global Social Responsibility Standards
Third-party auditors engaged in the initiative will adopt globally recognized social responsibility frameworks as the basis for their assessments, including:
1. WRAP (Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production)
2. SA8000 (Social Accountability 8000)
Audits will also reference guidance from the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs). Participating companies that complete the process will receive official verification and supporting documentation, demonstrating their commitment to ethical and sustainable business practices.
Advancing Taiwan’s Role in Responsible and Sustainable Manufacturing
This initiative highlights the Taiwan bicycle industry’s strong commitment to responsible sourcing, human rights, and sustainability. By aligning with international due diligence standards, Taiwan’s manufacturers are not only ensuring compliance with evolving global regulations but also reinforcing their position as trusted partners in the global supply chain.
As the European Union prepares to phase in its Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) starting in 2027, TBA’s proactive leadership sets the stage for Taiwan’s bicycle sector to remain competitive, resilient, and fully aligned with international expectations for transparency and ethical governance.
TBA Chairman Robert Wu highlights Taiwan’s bicycle industry efforts in sustainable supply chains and human rights protection.
