Tern Supports Disaster Relief Operations with E-Cargo Bikes

Tern Bicycles has provided two Quick Haul electric cargo bikes to German humanitarian aid organisation International Disaster Response Germany (FIRE) to support disaster assessment and emergency response missions.

The donation was made through Tern’s Good Werx programme, under which the company allocates at least one percent of its annual net profits to social and environmental projects.

According to Tern, the e-cargo bikes will be used during reconnaissance and rapid response operations in disaster-affected areas, including wildfire zones and regions impacted by other natural disasters. In such situations, access roads can become blocked by smoke, fallen trees, debris or damaged infrastructure, limiting the mobility of conventional vehicles.

The Quick Haul bikes can be equipped with panniers to carry essential supplies, including radios, first-aid equipment, water, flashlights and tools. Tern also noted that the bikes can be transported to disaster areas by van, trailer or helicopter when required.

Founded in 2002, FIRE provides international emergency assistance following natural disasters. The organisation specialises in wildfire response, urban search and rescue, and other disaster-relief operations worldwide.
