The UK’s Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) has officially announced the extension of anti-dumping measures on bicycles and certain essential bicycle components imported from China through August 30, 2029.

Under the final decision, anti-dumping duty rates will remain between 19.2% and 48.5%, depending on the exporter. The scope applies to direct exports from China as well as Chinese bicycles transshipped through seven countries: Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Tunisia.

Key Findings & Economic Impact:

 * Resumption Risk: The TRA concluded that without these protective duties, low-priced Chinese imports would likely resume dumping in the UK market, causing material injury to domestic producers.

 * Industry Protection: Maintaining the duties is expected to deliver an economic benefit of £1 million to £9 million annually to UK manufacturers, safeguarding thousands of jobs and supporting local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

 * Covered Components: Key essential parts subject to tariffs include frames, wheels, handlebars, and brake components.

Final Post-Brexit Transition Review:

This decision concludes the TRA’s final post-Brexit transition review of inherited EU trade defense measures. The review was officially launched on August 23, 2024, to ensure that the lingering trade policies align with the UK’s independent trade policy and economic interests.
