ECI: European Bicycle Market Moves Toward Stability

European Cycling Industries Releases 2026 Bicycle Industry & Market Profile

European Cycling Industries (ECI) has released the 2026 Bicycle Industry & Market Profile (BIMP), the annual reference publication providing the latest market intelligence on the European bicycle industry. Based on 2025 data, the report provides a comprehensive overview of European bicycle production, sales, trade, employment and market developments.

The 2026 edition marks the first BIMP published by ECI following the merger of the Confederation of the European Bicycle Industry (CONEBI) and Cycling Industries Europe (CIE), bringing together industry expertise and market data from across Europe.

According to the report, the European bicycle industry has continued its transition toward a more balanced and demand-driven market. Following the exceptional surge in demand during the Covid boom, supply chain disruptions and subsequent market corrections in recent years, the latest data indicates that the industry is entering a more stable phase. Manufacturers have continued to adjust production levels, inventories have progressively normalized, and imports have recovered.

Key figures from the 2026 BIMP include:

European bicycle and EPAC production: 10.82 million units in 2025, unchanged compared with 2024.

European bicycle and EPAC sales: 15.618 million units in 2025, down 2.6% year-on-year.

Total market sales value: €18.252 billion in 2025, a decrease of 0.84% compared with 2024.

Direct employment in bicycle and parts & accessories manufacturing: 67,076 jobs, an increase of 1,025 compared with 2024.

Beyond these key indicators, the BIMP provides detailed analysis of the European bicycle market, including production, sales, employment, import and export flows, as well as national market developments. As one of the industry’s most comprehensive annual data resources, the report helps companies and policymakers better understand the evolving European bicycle sector and make informed strategic decisions.

The 2025 data confirms that the European bicycle industry has continued its transition from an exceptional period of market volatility towards a more balanced and resilient footing. While businesses have adapted to changing demand, the long-term fundamentals of our sector remain strong,” said Paul Walsh, CEO of European Cycling Industries.

Walsh also highlighted the importance of strengthening Europe’s manufacturing base as market conditions stabilize.Cycling is not only an essential part of Europe’s mobility transition, but also a strategic manufacturing industry. One of the most important questions raised by this year’s data is how Europe ensures that future market growth also strengthens its own manufacturing base. Maintaining a competitive environment that allows this industrial base to thrive should be a European policy priority,” he added.

The latest BIMP highlights that the European bicycle market is moving toward a more stable phase, while the industry continues to strengthen resilience, improve competitiveness and support long-term growth.
