Brompton and Deutsche Bahn have expanded their joint folding bike subscription program to include an electric model, giving commuters a new option for combining train travel with cycling.

The program, originally launched nationwide by Deutsche Bahn in June 2023, previously offered the conventional Brompton C Line at €41 per month. The expanded service now also includes the Brompton Electric C Line, equipped with a four-speed drivetrain, for €99 per month.

The 12-month subscription includes delivery within Germany, insurance coverage and a service check after six months. Customers sign the contract directly with Brompton, and the subscription ends automatically after 12 months. It can then be extended, or customers can purchase a new Brompton at a discounted price.

The Brompton Electric C Line features a 250-watt rear hub motor that provides assistance up to 25 km/h. Depending on riding conditions and usage, the manufacturer claims a range of up to 90 km. Its battery is removable, while the bike folds to approximately 58.5 × 56.5 × 27 cm.

The folding bike can be carried as luggage on public transport, including Deutsche Bahn services, without requiring an additional bicycle ticket when folded.

“The Brompton Electric C Line expands our joint offering with a solution that also makes longer commutes more comfortable,” said Julien Scriven, Managing Director of Brompton Bike Hire.

The number of electric folding bikes available through the subscription is initially limited.
