Colorado Relaunches E-Bike Rebate Program with $3 Million in Funding

Colorado Governor Jared Polis and the Colorado Energy Office (CEO) have announced the relaunch of the state’s E-Bike Rebate program, with the first registration period opening on August 24, 2026.

The new programme is backed by $3 million in funding from the Community Access Enterprise. The Colorado Energy Office plans to provide point-of-sale rebates to more than 2,800 eligible Coloradans over the next year.

Colorado’s initial E-Bike Rebate programme ran from summer 2023 until funding was fully used in spring 2025. More than 34,000 Coloradans applied during the initial programme, with nearly 8,000 receiving rebates and saving more than $9.75 million on e-bike purchases.

The new programme is available to Colorado residents with household incomes at or below 80% of the Area Median Income for their county. The standard rebate is $1,000 for a qualifying e-bike, with an additional $300 available for an e-cargo bike or an adaptive e-bike.

Registration will open quarterly over the next year, with each registration period lasting one week. The first round will open at 11:00 a.m. Mountain Time on August 24 and close at noon on August 31.

After each registration period closes, the Colorado Energy Office will randomly select applicants to receive rebates. Selected applicants will then be notified by email and will have one week to provide proof of income and address to confirm eligibility.

Rebate recipients must purchase a qualifying e-bike from a participating e-bike retailer, either in person or by phone. The Colorado Energy Office is currently registering retailers for the programme.

Recipients may combine the Colorado E-Bike Rebate with the Colorado E-Bike Tax Credit discount if the purchase is made through a retailer participating in both programmes. Residents of cities or counties that already operate local e-bike rebate programmes, including Denver, may still apply for the statewide rebate, but the state rebate cannot be combined with a local incentive on the same e-bike purchase.

According to the Colorado Energy Office, 89% of recipients from the initial programme said they would not have purchased an e-bike without the rebate. The office also reported that recipients replaced an average of 2.85 private-vehicle trips per week with e-bike rides.
